A PLYMOUTH family has praised their neighbour for raising the alarm and allowing them to escape when their house became a raging inferno. Sam Ho said he has Phoebe Bond to thank for banging on their door late on Sunday night so they could get to safety with minutes to spare.
He said the family was fast asleep at 11.30pm and had no idea the rear of their house, in Yealmpstone Drive, Plympton, was ablaze. But thanks to Phoebe’s quick thinking five people and two dogs were able to escape safely before fire crews arrived.
“We have had a lot of support since the fire but I want to give a shout out to my next-door neighbour Phoebe Bond, she was the one that banged on the door,” Mr Ho said.
“Another two minutes and we would have been unconscious. We were very lucky.”
Mr Ho, a musician, explained how the fire started in the back garden and spread to the property causing immense damage. Fire chiefs still can’t identify how the fire began but have said it was accidental.
