A NEW petition is calling for Plymouth's disused former airport land to be protected for aviation use only. In just a week more than 300 names have appeared on the online petition at change.org and the people behind it say they would like to match the 37,000 who signed a similar petition more than a decade ago.
Titled "protect Plymouth Airport's 113-acre site for aviation use only", the petition is calling for an extension of a five-year ban on development, due to expire next month. The petition was started by Danny Bamping, who stood unsuccessfully for the Independent Alliance in the Moor View ward at last year's council elections.
Mr Bamping said the petition was actually started by the Supporters of Plymouth Airport, a Facebook group with nearly 2,000 members. He said an individual had to be named however.
