A PLYMOUTH pub has an uncertain future, but locals have a clear message - they want to see the pub open again. Residents from St Judes and Prince Rock have been gathering outside of the venue to show their resilience – and how much they miss their “safe meeting space”.
The Grenville pub has been at the centre of a planning application, but a change of use for the premises was rejected by Plymouth City Council on July 12. The building is owned by private landlord Andrew Cotterell who wanted to convert the historical pub into three flats.
The St Judes community, along with Prince Rock residents, have been left in limbo with the pub’s future in jeopardy – The Grenville is the only pub in the area and an important social centre. It’s currently closed, but locals say a new landlord could make the venue a “huge success”.
