Residents band together to save community pub

A PLYMOUTH pub that recently closed is now the centre of a fight against time. Residents’ in St Judes have formed a stronghold and the group’s sole purpose is to see their beloved pub, The Grenville, reopened.

Locals have set up a group called The Friends of the Grenville Hotel. The group has submitted a nomination form to Plymouth City Council to have the pub registered as an asset of community value.

Alongside that, the change of use planning application has just been re-advertised – due to ‘receipt of additional supporting information’. The planning application has so far received 30 objections against the plan to turn the venue into three ground floor flats.

Grenville Road resident, Dr Dave Jones said: “The community hasn’t given up hope. The best thing we can do now is raise objections to the planning application which has just been reopened until July 2.
