LITERARY festival organiser and founder of the South Hams Authors Network Alison Huntingford has just published her third historical novel.
The book, Dance A Fearful Jig, is set in Peterborough in 1807, and poses the question: "What would you sacrifice for love?" The plot centres on a lonely, middle-aged housekeeper who meets a paroled French prisoner from Napoleon's army. In times of war, a forbidden friendship can be dangerous.
All of Alison's novels are based on her family history, and she is meticulous in her historical research. The latest book led her to rediscover the long-forgotten prisoner of war camp, Norman Cross, and its population of 5,000 Napoleonic soldiers. It is a fascinating and unusual story of friendship and love which knows no borders.
