Tons of big scores as super league gets underway

PLYMOUTH CITY SUPER LEAGUE

Joint top scorer across both divisions was Wayne Town, who struck 16 three-figure scores in a 9-2 win for B section Clifton over their local Greenbank rivals Fawn B.

Town's teammates Cory Jonas and Ross Blake also showed glimpses of magic, throwing the game's only maximum and a 17-dart leg respectively.

Despite being on the wrong side of the heavy defeat, Mike Bassett still managed to put ten tons onto the scoreboard, whilst teammate Steve Dobson threw a high checkout of 115.

The team with the stand-out roster in the B league, Cornwall Gate, started their journey with an emphatic 10-1 win over Duchy of Cornwall A.

Simon Stevenson fired 16-ton plusses, including three of the six maximums his team put onto the scoreboard. His trio of 180s was joined by a brace from Devon's seventh-highest male appearance maker Mark Turner, whilst Andy Malinowski added a solitary effort on his way to 11 three-figure scores personally.

Lewis Dare was in fine fettle with a ten-ton haul, whilst Dan Bunney's 88 checkout was the best mustered by all competitors on display in the demolition job.

The other 10-1 winner in the first game week, Cherry Tree B, had Shaun Dring in decent nick as he put 11 tons onto the scoreboard in the victory over Duchy B.

Dring wasn't the only player for the visitors from Pennycross to shine as Tony Reid heard scores of a ton or more called no fewer than ten times.

Mike Whatley's ten-ton haul, which included the game's only maximum, couldn't arrest Kings Tamerton's slide to a 6-5 defeat away at Ker St.

Whatley's Harper fired a 100 checkout that settled for second-best in the match as Paul Freeman checked 110 in a single visit.
