Town's heroics can't halt defeat for Clifton team

PLYMOUTH City Super League Division B was lit up by Wayne Town's 16 ton-plusses, but that tally couldn't arrest Clifton's slide to a 6-5 defeat at the hands of Victoria.

Town's total was topped up by a 150 checkout that was the best across both divisions of the league, beating out four other top checkouts to the biggest of the match.

Town's other checkout of 83 settled for fifth best whilst Gary Eaton's 86 and a 98 finish by Town's team-mate, Ross Blake, were third and fourth to a second-placed 103 from Seth Thompson.

Mick Bingham was in good form for the triumphant away side as he nailed 12 tons and legs in 16 and 17 darts against Dan Jewell, who netted the only maximum of the match.

A 7-4 win for St Levans over Hyde Park was dominated by the form of Tex Pearce, who added a maximum to his 15 three-figures scores.

Despite ending on the wrong side of the narrow defeat, Ben Welsh matched Pearce's tally of 15 ton-plusses.

A finish of 88 from Welsh had to settle for second best as teammate Bob Woods fired a 116 threedart combination in a 3-1 defeat to Pearce.

Cornwall Gate continued their parade to the Division B title with a 7-4 win over Kings Arms A that saw Simon Stevenson put 11 tons onto the scoreboard.

Stevenson (27.83) added legs in 17 and 18 darts during his 3-0 win, whilst Pete Down was the defeated Oreston side's top scorer with ten tons overall.

A 6-5 win for Cherry Tree B in a visit to Ker St was lit up by three maximums as Shaun Dring and Kev Doel both fired for the victors.
