Waspi women could be in line for £10k

A BILL has been presented to Parliament aiming to compel the Government to set up a compensation scheme which could result in payouts of £10,000 or more for women who missed out on state pension payments when their retirement age was increased.

The change, which happened in 2010, affected women born in the 1950s and was part of an effort to equalise the state pension age across genders.

The Women Against State Pension Inequality (Waspi) campaign believes the change was carried out unfairly and without enough warning.

SNP MP Alan Brown used the 10-minute rule procedure in the Commons to introduce a Bill he said would require the Secretary of State to publish proposals for a compensation scheme for women affected.
