The England under-19 captain said: "First of all, Argyle put trust in an 18-year-old centre-back coming in so I owe everything to this club, opening up a pathway for me.
"For me, I want to see it become an established Championship club. It doesn't deserve to get relegated and I want to do everything I can to keep this club up, and hopefully we can do it sooner than later. I do believe we can do that. We have got 30 points to play for now. We back ourselves and I'm sure we will stay up."
Argyle are above Blackburn in the Championship table on goal difference, both with 40 points from 36 games, and are just two points clear of the relegation positions.
Phillips said: "It is getting quite tight but we have got 30 points to work with and us lads we are very positive we can stay up. It will be interesting but we have got to back ourselves, we are a great team."
