The forecaster’s yellow warning for heavy showers and thunderstorms covers large swathes of England and eastern Wales from 4am until 9pm today.
The alert brings the threat of flooding and power cuts for some areas, as well as travel chaos, with some roads set for closure and train and bus services facing disruption, including cancellations.
Meteorologists said there was a “small chance of flooding and disruption from heavy showers and thunderstorms” today in a few places, including power cuts.
