Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea lose millions of subscribers; BSNL gains customers

RELIANCE JIO, country's largest telecom service provider, lost a whopping 12.65 million customers in the first three months following the tariff hike implemented by private telecom operators in June 2024.

Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea lose millions of subscribers; BSNL gains customers

Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea also saw a decline, losing 5.4 million and 4.78 million customers, respectively, during July, August, and September 2024. In contrast, state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), which has not participated in tariff hikes, gained 6.28 million new subscribers during the same period. This marks the first instance in which BSNL has gained customers for three consecutive months, while private telecom service providers Airtel, Jio and Vodafone Idea have lost customers for three consecutive months.
