He started gaining his reputation during the time of Felix Resurrection Hidalgo and Juan Luna – when the exceptional artistic talent of the Filipino was finally discovered and recognized by the world.
Tampinco's career spanned two historic periods in Philippine history – the Spanish and the American periods – and is said to have been responsible for significantly contributing to the shaping and decorating of Manila's pre-war architectural landscape, churches, and cemeteries as well as providing beauty to the homes of the rich. Though a number of his major works have been destroyed during the Second World War, we could still find and appreciate some of the most delicately carved masterpieces once skillfully created by this legendary artist like those we find exhibited at the Gallery Genesis.
