Asian Games: Indian contingent finishes with unprecedented 107 medals

India signed off from the continental meet at fourth spot on the medal tally, a jump of four positions from the 2018 edition in Jakarta where the contingent ended with a tally of 70 medals, including 16 gold.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed India reaching the unprecedented milestone of 100 medals at the Asian Games and announced that he would host the Indian contingent on 10 October.

“A momentous achievement for India at the Asian Games! The people of India are thrilled that we have reached a remarkable milestone of 100 medals,'' he posted on X. “Every aweinspiring performance has made history and filled our hearts with pride. I look forward to hosting our Asian Games contingent on the 10th and interacting with our athletes," the PM wrote.

The Indian contingent at Hangzhou touched the 100medal mark early on Saturday with the women’s kabaddi team claiming a gold with a win over Chinese Taipei.

Global tremors

The US is undoubtedly a number one superpower. It is dangerous to the world, and the people, including those in the US, if it leads to its government's arrogance forgetting its founding principles of equality, fraternity, humanity, and world peace. It reminds us of the saying of Lord Acton, 'Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely'.
