Messi and Ronaldo's Ballon bursts after omission from 30-man list

PARIS For the first time since 2003, neither Cristiano Ronaldo nor Lionel Messi have been included in the nominees for the men's Ballon d'Or award, which was announced on Sept 4, with England's Jude Bellingham among the 30 players named.

Portugal's Ronaldo, who has won the award five times, also failed to receive a nomination in 2023, while Messi, who won for a record eighth time last year and has been nominated 16 times, misses out despite Argentina's Copa America triumph in 2024.

The former Barcelona superstar, now 37 and in Major League Soccer for Inter Miami, was also missing from the nominees in 2022, when Karim Benzema took the honours for the world's best footballer.
