On average, 85 per cent of young people aged 15 to 24 surveyed in 55 countries said they have heard of climate change, yet only 50 per cent chose the correct definition, according to a poll by the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) and Gallup, whose results were released on Dec 7.
The young people were asked to select between "seasonal changes in weather that occur every year" and "more extreme weather events and a rise in average world temperatures resulting from human activity" to gauge their knowledge of climate change.
