Now, Hyd hub for lumpy skin disease vax

Amid lumpy skin disease (LSD) outbreak across the country affecting the bovine population, Hyderabad is fast emerging as the country's major LSD vaccine production centre. Hyderabad had already reinforced its position as a global Covid-19 vaccine hub during the pandemic.

Along with city-based Indian Immunologicals Limited (IIL) in the private sector, Telangana State Veterinary Biological and Research Institute (TSVBRI) is the only government institute in the country which manufactures the LSD vaccine. In just two months, TSVBRI has produced 77 lakh doses and has orders for another 33 lakh goatpox doses, which are also used to treat LSD, a contagious viral disease that affects cattle.
