In all there are 31 amenity plots in the JVPD scheme spread over 125 acres (five-and-a-half Oval Maidans) estimated to be worth Rs 15,000 crore.
Mhada is now the special planning authority for all Mhada layouts, including JVPD. In 2017, the JVPD Scheme Association issued a notice to BMC to purchase 12 of the amenity plots. However, NGO Janhit Manch raised objections to the purchase notice pointing out the BMC had developed the amenities using public money and the ultimate beneficiaries are the members/residents of these societies. BMC’s Development Plan department then took up a detailed search of documents, corresponded with Mhada, and demanded the plots be handed over free of cost.
