There has been much discussion recently about the concept of “quiet quitting”, where a person has reached a stage of disillusionment with their job and is only doing the bare minimum required.

And perhaps that’s not surprising. After more than two years of pandemic uncertainty, employee stress levels are at all-time highs and people are suffering from severe burnout. When you’re exhausted or overwhelmed, something has to give. And for many, this may be the pursuit of excellence at work.

But is taking your foot off the gas the answer? Is there another way to fix this problem? As counterintuitive as it sounds, adding newer, more energising activities to your schedule may be one. For, the answer to burnout may not only be scaling back; it can also be engagement.
