In relief to commuters, BEST to get 2k new e-buses by '23

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) on Friday approved permits for 2,000 new buses — mostly electric and AC buses — for BEST in Mumbai. These additional buses will arrive in the fleet by 2023, and push up the fleet size to beyond 5,000 buses, said sources.

The MMRTA order mentioned that the approval of new permits will ensure more buses on roads and more convenience for daily commuters of Mumbai. The BEST plans to procure some of the buses as double deckers while the remaining will be single decker electric buses. At present, BEST has a fleet of 3,619 buses, which includes maximum buses on wet lease and running on environment-friendly fuel — electricity.
