Mumbai: Only 31.7% of voters turned up to cast their ballot for the Andheri East assembly bypoll on Thursday, making the turnout much lower than the 53.8% seen during the 2019 assembly polls. Though the BJP’s Murji Patel had withdrawn his candidature last month after a section of political leaders called for an unopposed by-election in view of the nomination given to the deceased MLA Ramesh Latke’s wife Rutuja Latke by the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), there are a total of 7 candidates in the fray. The bypoll was necessitated due to Ramesh Latke’s death in May this year.
Voting for the bypoll took place between 7 am and 6 pm. The counting of votes will take place on November 6.
