State Congress president Nana Patole and NCP minister Chhagan Bhujbal blamed Fadnavis for the "unnecessary" contest. "Fadnavis is deviating from high tradition. So far, no contests were held for the Rajya Sabha and legislative council, now it appears BJP has imposed contests on the state. We tried to persuade Fadnavis for unopposed elections, but he did not agree... it has set a bad precedent," said Bhujbal.
