Sputnik stock plunges as it is a losing investment for hosps

Mumbai: For 2.66 lakh people in the state, getting a precautionary shot of Sputnik has become a challenge. Primarily, it is not available in the public sector, and the private hospitals that had procured it initially do not want to invest in the Russian vaccine anymore. Maharashtra, meanwhile, completed administering booster shots to 50 lakh people on Thursday.

A senior surgeon from the city who had got his entire family of five vaccinated with Sputnik V is now awaiting clarity on how to get boosted.

“It’s not available in any of the major hospitals and it appears the situation may remain so,” the doctor said, wishing to remain unidentified. In Mumbai, more than 70,400 people have taken two shots of Sputnik V.

A cursory glance at the CoWin portal shows that merely one centre in Borivli and another in Dombivli are offering the precautionary shot of Sputnik.
