Thane: The Thane Crime Branch arrested two persons for possessing counterfeit currency notes worth Rs 8 crore from the Gaimukh area of Ghodbunder road on Friday, officials informed.

The accused have been identified as Ramhari Sharma, 52, a Virar resident and Rajendra Raut, 58, who lives in Palghar.

A police officer said they had information that the two accused were planning to circulate the fake currency in the open market and were looking for a link, following which the Crime Branch Unit-5 sleuths led by senior inspector Vikas Ghodke laid a trap near Gaimukh.
