The Supreme Court Friday refused to entertain a PIL seeking expunction of certain references to the Sikh community and its founder Guru Nanak in its Ayodhya verdict pronounced three years ago but clarified that the apex court respected all religions and their tenets as provided under the Constitution of India

Ayodhya PIL: SC says it respects all religions

The petitioner questioned the authenticity of a narration about Guru Nanak visiting the Ram temple in Ayodhya between 1510-11 as deposed by a defence witness and reproduced in the ‘addenda’ to the verdict. The addenda relied on this to say the temple existed prior to its demolition by emperor Babur who invaded India in 1526.
