New Delhi: A major tragedy was averted when 21 children seated in a private school bus had a narrow escape after the vehicle burst into flames in Rohini Sector 7 on Thursday afternoon. All the children and the driver rushed out when smoke started emanating from the engine bay. Three cars also caught fire in the melee.
While a probe is on to ascertain the cause behind the blaze, police suspect a short circuit in the battery or CNG kit caused it. Assistance would be sought from mechanical engineers to confirm it. The school said the Tempo Traveller was arranged by some parents and was not run by them.
The fire department got a call regarding the incident at 2.14pm and three fire tenders were rushed to the spot near the dispensary at Sai Baba Mandir T-point in Rohini.
