How can a person be non-violent in the face of extreme violence? The play Pah-Lak by playwright Abhishek Majumdar – that is the first major Tibetan production, with a Tibetan ensemble – is as much an inquiry into this paradox as it is a testament to the powerful resistance movement of the Tibetans, who have been in exile for 63 years. “India got its independence because of Gandhi’s non-violence movement. Cut to present, there is no non-violent freedom revolution. The Tibetan resistance is the only non-violent movement and I wanted to tell this story,” says Abhishek.
