Expressing concern that vehicular emission and dust were the biggest contributors to air pollution in the national capital, lieutenant governor VK Saxena on Wednesday asked road-owning agencies to repair all arterial roads before October 15 and identify at least 125 highrise buildings to install water sprinklers.
Chairing a meeting to ensure effective inter-departmental coordination ahead of the implementation of Graded Response Action Plan to manage air pollution, the LG called for urgent steps to be taken to mitigate recurrent problems by resorting to strict enforcement, time-bound completion of related projects, and real-time monitoring of the situation.
The meeting was attended by Commission for Air Quality Management chairperson MM Kutty and heads of various stakeholder departments, including environment and forest, Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), Delhi Development Authority, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), PWD, transport, traffic police, Central Public Works Department and New Delhi Municipal Council.
