CHASING HISTORY

Zach Hyman breaks in alone and beats Florida Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky for the Oilers' third goal in Friday night's Game 6 of the Cup final in Edmonton.

The Edmonton Oilers have made the impossible seem inevitable, the unthinkable seem likely, the preposterous seem believable.

Against all odds, they have battled back from a three-game deficit in the Stanley Cup final.

There will be a Game 7 on Monday night in Florida for the Stanley Cup.

Zach Hyman, Warren Foegele and Adam Henrique got the Oilers out to a 3-0 lead before Ryan McLeod and Darnell Nurse scored emptynetters as Edmonton took a 5-1 decision over the collapsing Florida Panthers in front of a rabid Rogers Place crowd that had almost as many revellers just outside the rink.

The loudest chant: “We want the Cup!”

Goaltender Stuart Skinner has been superb — now an astonishing 10-0 in Games 4, 5, 6 and 7 in postseason series. He made a big save when Florida was pressing with an extra attacker and passed the loose puck to Nurse for the second empty-netter of the night.

Skinner’s a big reason why the Oilers penalty kill has shut down Florida’s power play. His counterpart, Sergei Bobrovsky, had been the favourite for the Conn Smythe as playoff MVP early in the series, but the Oilers have taken the sheen off him.
