Blue Jay Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Junior Mosquea and Gabby Guerrero check out footage from an off-season beach workout.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is sitting on a red lawn chair just off the shore of a narrow cove in the Dominican Republic, picking fish out of the water as if they’re baseballs in the dirt.
This off-season fishing trip has been a fruitful one for the Blue Jays corner infielder, along with a handful of his friends and relatives. After dropping dozens of fish off their lines and into a large bucket, Guerrero and his older cousin work together to mix in the sauces and spices.
While the meal is cooking, Guerrero parks himself on a white plastic chair and settles into a game of dominoes. The custom-made board now centring the group features the face of the baseball superstar who brings them all together.
And … scene.
Nearly 200,000 people have watched and listened as Guerrero relaxed with his closest friends on that sunny off-season afternoon somewhere near his home in Don Gregorio. The unique footage revealing what regular life is like for the Jays superstar is courtesy of a devoted friend back home who’s been documenting every off-season activity, every in-season home run and everything in between for a few years now.
“I’m working to be able to show the world what the Guerrero family does inside the field and off the field,” Junior Mosquea told the Star in a phone interview, through a translator. “It’s a pleasure to work with the Guerrero family and be able to show the world the positive side of Vladdy’s career, what he does for charity and things like that.”
