“The guys have done a good job,” Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe said on the eve of Game 4 at Scotiabank Arena, with Toronto trailing two games to one. “The guys that we would consider in that conversation to come out offer different things to the lineup.
“The first situation is to figure out where Willy’s at and his availability, and then make a determination from there. But there’s been different conversations trying to sort through what we think is best, which is a sign that the players, to me, have done a good job in making things difficult.”
The fact that Nylander addressed the media after practice Friday suggests the worst of whatever ails him is over. Injured players are typically off-limits for interviews and Nylander hasn’t been available for comment since the playoffs began.
