Seniors' rescue from flooded nursing home a 12-hour operation

The 114 residents of a Mississauga seniors facility, many of whom had to be boated to safety after Tuesday's torrential downpour flooded their residence by Little Etobicoke Creek, have been relocated to hotels and other care facilities in the GTA.

No one was injured during the rescue at Tyndall Seniors Village, which took 12 hours and included first responders from across the region.

When Mississauga Fire arrived on the scene of the long-term-care home, the Eglinton Avenue East bridge was underwater, flooding the parking lot and first storey of the residence in more than five feet of water, said acting captain Dan Herd.

Windows on the first floor had broken and debris were floating in the water.
