It’s a collection that will only grow this year — a big one for both Mounsteven and the target of her devotion, pop superstar Taylor Swift.
Swift, who made Grammy history in February with her fourth Album of the Year win, is scheduled to wrap up her record-breaking, nearly two-year-long Eras Tour in Vancouver in December. Between now and then, she’ll release a new album, launch a European leg and, come late fall, do six shows here at Rogers Centre.
Mounsteven, who has built something of a TikTok following by offering tips on getting tickets to the Canadian concerts, will be in a floor seat at the Toronto venue come November.
But first, she’s taking a trip to Paris with a VIP ticket to see her idol in May.
That leaves the 31-year-old marketer with less than a month to make the 30 or so friendship bracelets she intends to wear and trade with equally fervent fans in the City of Light.
A trend inspired by the song “You’re on Your Own, Kid” (“So make the friendship bracelets / Take the moment and taste it”), the fashioning and swapping of beaded creations, often in colours representing Swift albums and sporting song titles and lyrics, has become, during the Eras Tour, an iconic symbol of the Swiftie community.
“It’s such a fun bonding experience,” says Mounsteven, who finds crafting the jewelry quite meditative, especially after a long day of work looking at a computer screen.
