In the age of digital photography, it may seem as though snapping countless photos without much forethought has become second nature. Gone are the times when photographers had to meticulously compose and illuminate their shots, limited by the number of film exposures they had. Unfortunately, this new way of shooting often results in us neglecting essential techniques, and not fully using the capabilities of our cameras. Instead, we now spend even more time editing images to improve clarity and vibrancy, even though this could have been achieved during the initial capture.
It's important to remember that creating breathtaking photos doesn't just need an interesting subject; it also requires profound photographic knowledge, which goes hand in hand with having full control over the main tool: the camera. Here, it's not essential that you own the latest high-tech model or the most expensive lenses: the important thing is knowing your camera inside and out so that you fully understand its full range of features starting with the camera's instant preview, which not only enables us to analyse the scene and make the necessary adjustments but also helps us to hone our photographic abilities.
By learning how to use in-camera features, and where to find them, you'll be able to capture higher-quality images in terms of detail, colour and composition, and optimise your workflow. It's time to reconnect with your subject matter, and elevate your photography game.
