Could this be the most rebooted series in gaming? We’ve had New Nightmare on PS2, a mess of a reboot on PS3, and the legendarily awful Alone In The Dark: Illumination that was thankfully confined solely to PC. Now we have this, the fourth attempt to resurrect one of the originators of survival horror. If only there were a series with themes about the dangers of resurrecting forces which should stay buried that could warn publishers to stay away, eh?
Playing as either Emily Hartwood (played by Jodie Comer) or Edward Carnby (David Harbour), you’re searching for Emily’s uncle Jeremy at Derceto Manor, where he’s apparently been suffering from terrifying hallucinations. Might we diagnose he enjoy a little less Resident Evil before bed? Because this plays like a tribute to Capcom’s excellent remake of Resident Evil 2. It’s got a main location that you gradually open up, loving close-ups of keys opening doors, gun sights that narrow when you stop moving, a rubbish sewer level, and even the starter enemies remind us of the Molded from Resident Evil VII.
