Despite a conceding last-minute equaliser at the Riverside, Mousinho was encouraged.

Portsmouth looked set for their first Championship win of the season thanks to Christian Saydee's first-half double, only for substitute Tommy Conway to score a 90th-minute penalty for Michael Carrick's side Boro had 29 shots on goal and Mousinho admitted a point was the least the hosts deserved, but praised his players players for preserving their unbeaten start to the campaign after draws with Leeds United and Luton.

"As it got closer to full-time I thought we might hold on in there, but ultimately we probably conceded a few too many opportunities and on balance Middlesbrough deserved to win the game," said Portsmouth's boss.

"To come away with a point is a really positive result.
