The 25-year-old wideman created the opening goal for Jamie Vardy after 21 seconds, laid on another for Wilfried Ndidi and then killed the contest with a superb counter-attack, intercepting the ball well inside his own half before running 60 yards to score.

It was the sort of performance Foxes fans have been waiting for following Mavididi's £6.9m switch from Montpellier in August, and an impressive response to being dropped for the Foxes' previous fixture against Hull.

"Absolutely magnificent," was the verdict of Sky Sports pundit Andy Hinchcliffe.

Vardy had also praised the former Arsenal youngster, but it came with a caveat. Twice before his goal, the winger spurned opportunities to square the ball to Vardy, instead taking on shots with a high degree of difficulty.

"I'd have had more," said the 36-year-old when asked about bagging his first of the season, "if Stephy had passed."
