The Strix Scar series includes professional, high-performance gaming laptops. The 2023 models were unveiled at the CES, and we received the ROG Strix Scar 17 (G733PY) for review. The 2023 Strix Scar 17 shows off its rich gaming pedigree in every design element. The lid has a matte finish with an illuminated ROG logo, while the Aura sync accents around the base of the chassis illuminate from power up. The large keyboard offers per-key illumination with personalised profiles like static, breathing, strobing, colour cycle, and rainbow. The shortcut buttons are large and accessible. The keyboard offers much relief, thanks to the spacing between the keys. Asus claims that the keyboard switches are rated for over 20 million key presses. The keypad houses five dedicated, customisable gaming hotkeys for volume and mic mute controls, operating modes, and Armoury Crate access. These can also be programmed to launch apps, set as a function key, or used as macro keys. The main air vents are at the sides, and the lid does not obstruct the airflow. Rubber strips near the corners raise the laptop a bit and aid in better heat dissipation from the base. Like any premium gaming laptop, the Strix Scar 17 heats up, but the heat is not transferred to the keyboard or touch pad, thanks to the efficient cooling system aided by Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal applied on CPU and GPU for efficient heat transfer, combined with a newly designed vapour chamber.
