The sleek and lightweight Asus Vivobook S 15 for 2024 is a thing of beauty. The first thing to get my attention was how light it was. The second I opened it, what immediately caught my eye was the “Snapdragon X Elite” sticker—no “Intel Core” or “AMD Ryzen” here, but the low-power high-performance ARM64 unit. It makes for an interesting departure from convention for non-Apple users. Can it be an alternative for the MacBook, though?

If you are familiar with CPU types, like x86 and x64, ARM, short for ‘Advanced RISC (reduced instruction set computer) Machine’, is a different architecture for a central processor unit (CPU) and is typically used for embedded systems or mobile devices. RISC simplifies individual instructions given to the computer in order to perform a specific task and brings advantages including low cost, low power consumption and, of course, high performance. It’s no different to use, however, running Windows 11 Home with all the commands, file extensions and shortcuts being exactly what we are used to. Let’s dive in now.
