Overcommitting leads to you feeling overwhelmed and giving away your limited time and energy, causing stress levels to rise and resentment to foster. Saying ‘no’ helps you manage the demands of others, and leaves you feeling calmer and more in control. ‘If you find it hard to say no to someone’s face, tell them you’ll check your diary and get back to them. Explain that you’d like to help but don’t want to let anyone down as you are overcommitted,’ explains psychotherapist Juliet Grace.
