Fans of TV’s much-loved baking contest are in for a treat as the celebrity version of the show returns with a new crop of stars heading into the tent of dreams, all hoping to impress judges Dame Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood with their cakes and bakes.
It’s not just about who’s got a soggy bottom or a runny ganache, though, because as the title suggests, The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer is for a good cause – it aims to raise awareness of the disease, as well as funds for life-saving research.
Hosted by Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding, the five-parter will see 20 celebs enter the Bake Off tent and have their skills put to the test in some tricky baking challenges.
Here, one of the stars taking part, actor Jodie Whittaker, talks about the challenge...
Jodie, we know you can act, but can you bake? No, but I’m starting to wonder whether I might be slightly better than I give myself credit for. Like, if you can follow a recipe, you can bake. But I couldn’t go off-piste and start creating my own thing. I’ve never really baked anything other than a cake mixture for buns.
Are you a fan of Bake Off? Yeah, and that’s why I wanted to do this. I wanted to come and be a tourist in the tent. It looks just like it does on TV.
Why is Stand Up To Cancer such an important cause to you?
