Does anyone really believe that the 1st of January is a good day to start making a difference in our lives? It's the day we wake up tired and emotional (and often hungover) after New Year celebrations. The living room is still awash with discarded canapés and half-eaten chocolate boxes. All we want to do is hide under the duvet with the cat and watch Katharine Hepburn in The Philadelphia Story.
And yet, mad fools, we've signed up for a 7am run/swim/hike, sustained only by a spinach smoothie. Then in the afternoon, a friend is coming round to go through our drawers and airing cupboard to throw out all the accumulated rubbish (like any friendship is going to survive that!).
