Steven Tougher's heartbroken family are determined to keep his memory alive

Steven Tougher is being remembered as a "gentle giant", a loving husband and a "true hero", whose life was tragically cut short just weeks before he was about to become a father for the second time to a daughter he'll now never meet.

The 29-year-old paramedic was killed in a western Sydney car park around 5.30am on April 14, when he was reportedly approached and stabbed multiple times in the random attack.

Before tragedy struck, Steven was enjoying one of the happiest times of his life, having landed his dream job as a paramedic and marrying his "best friend" Madison Parker just last month.

The young family from Wollongong share a son and were expecting the imminent arrival of their second child a daughter, friends have revealed.

Madison, along with Steven's parents Jeff and Jillian Tougher and sister Jess, tearfully spoke to the media last week.

"Steven touched the lives of everyone he met. It's ironic that in his death he's touched so many more," Jeff said on behalf of the family. "From the day he was born, he wanted to become an ambo - everything else was a distraction... He achieved so much in the field of medicine, nursing and he finally reached his dream job to become a paramedic.
