WE'RE CAPTURING BEAUTY IN THE BUSH

A collective of rural photographers are celebrating the ups and downs of life on the land

Fighting fires in the middle of the night and battling through an old barbed wire fence armed with her camera is all in a day's work for spirited stockwoman Kate Nelder.

While it's not often easy, the mother-of-one has long used her passion for photography to capture the beauty in what is often a desperate situation on her cattle station about 100km south of Mataranka in the Northern Territory.

"We get quite bad bush

fires here every year, mainly from lightning strikes," Kate, 26, tells Woman's Day. "We have an amazing community, and everyone drops whatever they are doing to fight the fires no matter how busy they are. It's stressful because you're trying to stop the fire from getting into the next property and save as much grass as you can. It's the photographs of those tired meet-ups in the middle of the night with flames behind everyone that I look back on afterwards and think, 'Wow, what a community!'"
