A $320 million split is now looming after the couple call it quits

The writing's been on the wall for months, but it was images of Sofia Vergara holidaying with a posse of friends in Italy for her 51st birthday without her wedding ring - or her husband Joe Manganiello - that sparked a fresh round of rumours that their marriage was in trouble.

Swiftly after came the divorce announcement, with Joe citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason behind ending his $320 million marriage to the South American beauty.

"We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives," Joe, 46, and Sofia, 51, said in a statement to Page Six.

A source tells Woman's Day their union was in trouble from the very beginning. "It was a year into their marriage that their very different personalities started to not be so much fun any more. He likes the gym and staying home, so he tended to let her go to events on her own, mostly because of his sobriety but he got tired of being her plus-one," says the insider.

Sources say Magic Mike star Joe's sobriety journey caused issues between the couple.
