Soothe a backache with a hot water bottle

When an achy back keeps you from enjoying your favorite fall activities, reach for a hot water bottle. While warming treatments have been used to soothe soreness since the 16th century, the hot water bottle gained traction as a household staple in the 1800s. Now, research proves it’s a potent pain reliever. A study in the Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research found applying a hot water bottle or heating pad to a sore back for 20 minutes relaxes tense muscles, calms pain nerves and tames inflammation. This reduces stiffness and pain by as much as 94% if done daily.
