For this month’s Drive-Buy car, we’ve turned the clock back to 1948, with a DodgeSpecial Deluxe that is blessed with plenty of period character and curvaceous lines. The car was imported to the UK from Brunswick, Canada, in 2015 and registered here in 2016. Its original colour was a pale blue, but at some stage in its life, it was repainted in a cherry red metallic. Its original 230cu in/3.7-litre Flathead straight-six engine has been replaced with one from a slightly later car, circa 1951/52. The bodywork remains pretty straight. It features ‘suicide’ rear doors and there’s an abundance of brightwork. Other nice touches include the pair of amber lens driving lights, scuttle-mounted swivel lights and a sun visor. Completing the period look are, of course, the white band cross-ply tyres.
