He then decided that if he was going to invest in American muscle it would have to be something of an oversized nature because, in his opinion, that is half the lure of the American cars. The Ford Galaxie was one of the cars on his list and it had to be a coupe.
He found this car in a garage and it had been standing on stilts for 22 years. The previous owner who was the 2nd owner had health issues and this was the reason for it being in that state for so long. They even found the license disc which dated back 21 years! The seller had used the car for road trips across South Africa in his younger years. This was documented and he had clearly enjoyed these trips in the Galaxie.
Because the car is in such original condition and almost untouched, the plan has been to keep it this way as far as is possible. When Antony got the car, he sent it away to be recommissioned because it had been standing for 2 decades. Luckily, not much had to be fixed or re-engineered. It was more of a case of replacing fluids, a service and double-checking all the important bits. The body was in an amazing condition for a 56-year-old car. There was no rust on the body at all. It only needed a polish and the bodywork is straight and all original.
