With his footballer son Kasper as his best man, goalkeeping legend and Strictly Come Dancing star Peter Schmeichel ensured his wedding day was truly a family affair when he married Laura von Lindholm in his native Denmark.
“To see Laura walk up the aisle, how beautiful she looked, will stay with me always,” the ex-Manchester United footballer tells HELLO!.
The couple tied the knot on 15 June in front of 150 guests at Egebaeksvang Church in the Danish coastal town of Espergarde, where they live. The bride’s sons Gustav, nine, and 12-year-old Vitus walked her up the aisle.
“It was a very proud moment for me,” Laura tells us. “We had been to the church to practise a few times. They were so very sweet and took the task very seriously.”
Laura’s daughter Lola, 20, sat beside her in the church and acted as witness, while the planning was overseen by 29-year-old Cecilie, Peter’s daughter – and Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper’s sister – from his former marriage.
Peter and Laura, who have known each other for six years, chose to have the ceremony in their local church so the celebrations could be held in a magnificent marquee in the grounds of their house close by.
Laura wore a delicate lace gown with champagne silk lining, by Elsa Adams, and carried a bouquet of white roses, gypsophila and purple wildflowers.
The weather – “It was very dramatic and stormy,” she tells us – played a role in the wedding photos, especially one taken on a jetty in the grounds of their home.
