The Basenji is one of the oldest breed of dogs.
Basenji dogs originated in Central Africa, between Congo Basin and South Sudan around 4000 BCE. They were the favourite dogs of the Pharaohs of Egypt. Illustrations of Basenjis were found in ancient basreliefs and sculptures in the tomb of the Great Pyramid of Khufu.
