Tirreno-Adriatico’s Sea Master is one of cycling’s most famous trophies
When Slovenia’s Primo Rogli pipped Adam Yates to the top step of Tirreno-Adriatico’s final podium in March, he was presented with the blue jersey and a first prize of €14,000 and also got his hands on one of cycling’s more memorable trophies.
Known as the Sea Master trophy, at over one metre long the gilded trident is not exactly subtle. Made by Penello Mario Srl, a cup and trophy company based in the north-east of Italy, the golden faces of the three-pronged spear shimmer and glisten, casting the holder in a rich light. Stefano Garzelli was the first rider to hold the trophy aloft when he won in 2010.
